Amp techs

Postby joeyrogerson » Wed Jul 28, 2010 1:29 am

I know this question gets asked on here quite often, so I apologize for my laziness and lack of memory, however the inquiry is of dire urgency and concern on my part. The question is: if one were to need service to a tube amp, who/were are the establishments of utmost quality that would offer such services in the greater Seattle metropolitan area? Thanks for your help.

I will take this opportunity to ask this board if anyone here has ever attempted a re-tolexing of a head or cab before. From what I've read it looks like an insane bullshit hassle, especially since most dudes playing vintage(ish) gear usually prefer the road-worn look of shredded tolex anyways. Nonetheless, I may give it a go with my JCM 800 head, because even if I fuck it up beyond belief it will still probably look better than it's current state. Anyone ever done this? Anyone ever paid someone else to do it for you?

yo cap,

I don't think it would be that hard. Like anything obviously with some practice you'd get it down to a science, but some carefulness will go a long way. I know on one of my Marshall's there's just a big seam on the bottom of the thing where they joined the piece together. Do some Googles and see what you come up with if you haven't already.

Tolexing is surprisingly easy, so long as you pay attention and plan it out. I did a pedal board with a narrow lip on my first tolex job and it was cake, a head or cab should be way easy. Open up windows though, my apartment reeked of contact cement for a week.
